The most important word to describe the Flint Handmade web design would have to be “tactile”. The organization as a whole is devoted to the presentation and education of hand crafting and their site serves as a resource to anyone looking to be involved. Many aspects of the site were drawn or assembled by hand and then scanned in to live tangibly in a digital world. It’s powered by Wordpress, but all illustration, design, and coding was done by yours truly.
Moving away from simply emailing a PDF attachment, this interactive site welcomes employees of Baker College’s Admissions Department with a new approach to delivering a quarterly newsletter.
With spring blooms in mind and a desire for a purple-y palette, this is a hand-lettered poster for yet another Flint Handmade market!
Boasting a bright palette and simple structure, I designed this weblog for North Muskegon Elementary School’s parent-teacher organization. It’s powered by Wordpress but features custom, kid-friendly illustrations and a cascading style sheet (plus some light javascript) that brings it to life.
This is a poster for a bi-annual event put on by Flint Handmade. I thought it was only appropriate to spell out the title for the Craft Supply Swap with craft supplies! I shot and edited the photo and laid out the information to be eye-catching and easy to read.
This is a photo-heavy blog design for a Grand Haven ad agency wanting to document the progress of building their new facility.
Little Free Libraries offer books housed in small containers to members of the local community with the “take a book, leave a book” mentality. The organizers of the Genesee County group needed a one-color logo with a fun retro look. They sell merchandise, like the book tote shown, to raise money to build more exchange boxes.
While working at Gazillion & One in 2012, we decided to do something a bit different for the annual client Christmas present. Instead of the usual shower of cookies and candy, G1 gifted recipients a donation to the Starfysh organization in their honor. A matching, mailed card lead the user to this playful Thank You page which explained their gift and how they were making a difference to others. My contribution to the project included hand-lettering, illustration, icon design, and layout.
This is a pocket folder designed for Our Hope, a Grand Rapids non-profit helping women through recovery. The folder contained five inserts (four informative and one pricing guide) which showcase my knowledge of layout and typesetting. The overall style is calm and easy to read.
This is a poster design for Flint Handmade’s 6th holiday craft market. Inspiration was taken from the Yarn Brigade’s project “Operation: Warm Up Flint” where volunteers crocheted or knitted hats and scarves then hung them downtown Flint for those in need.
This is a witty greeting card I thought up for my own personal line of crafts I vend at Flint Handmade craft markets. It’s one of my best sellers in the spring!
Handleber is a Michigan crafter who makes whimsical felt accessories with a lovely vintage look.
I illustrated the words and designed this poster for a show presenting some musicians of the electronic-pop genre. Listening while I worked, their clean beats inspired thin stripes and bright colors.
This is a logo and branding elements for a concept of all natural tea called Sip. The mark is strong and plays a vital role throughout each piece. The product would be found at specialty markets and comes either bottled or in bags you can brew at home. The web design is very bold, simple, and elegant.
I was truly honored with the opportunity to give this Grand Rapids lady pride event a diverse logo. They were going for something with a bold, do-it-yourself feel and by golly that’s the only way I know how! The logo was used in many applications including tshirts, signage, their website, and all over the social media world.
